Bahamian filmmaker Kareem J. Mortimer has just released the teaser trailer for his latest movie “Cargo” starring Haitian actors Gessica Geneus (Moloch Tropical, Toussaint Louverture) and Jimmy Jean-Louis (Heroes, Toussaint Louverture, Joy).
“Cargo” tells the story of a sensitive fisherman (Warren Brown) who transforms into a prolific human smuggler to pay off a gambling debt and provide for his family. The movie also stars Warren Brown (Luther), Omar J. Dorsey (Django Unchained, Ray Donovan, Selma), and Persia White (The Vampire Diaries, Girlfriends).
Cargo won Best Pitch at CaribbeanTales during the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012. The film was also accepted at the Toronto TIFF talent lab in 2013.
About the director – Kareem J. Mortimer
Kareem Mortimer is a Bahamian filmmaker known for such films as Chance (2005), The Eleutheran Adventure (2006), Float (2007), I Am Not A Dummy (2009), Children of God (2010), Wind Jammers (2010) and Passage (2013).
His debut feature, Children of God, is the first narrative feature from the Caribbean with LGBT themes. Another project, Wind Jammers (2010), which he co-directed with Richard von Maur, is a children’s film that deals with racism. Children of God was shown on the television channel Showtime as well as distributed in over twenty-four countries around the world. In 2014, Passage was awarded an African Movie Academy Award for Best Short Film from the Diaspora.
