Miss Colombia, Miss France, and Miss Haiti were named the top 3 at the 2017 Miss Universe pageant which was held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines on Sunday, January 29. Miss Haiti, Raquel Pelissier, was named first runner-up, while France’s Iris Mittenaere was crowned Miss Universe 2016.
Raquel Pelissier was born and raised in Haiti and is currently attending graduate school for a master’s degree in optometry.
“She is working on a research project on the regeneration of the optic nerve,” her Miss Universe bio states.
Pellisier was a crowd favorite during the coronation night, which saw Iris Mittenaere win the crown.
The top finalists hailed from Kenya, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Colombia, Phillippines, Canada, Brazil, France, Haiti, Thailand and the U.S.
According to Morning News USA, the Miss Universe runner-up speaks four languages aside from English: French, Spanish, Haitian Creole and German.
Pelissier was the 3rd Runner-up in Reina Hispanoamericana 2016, in Bolivia, where she also won the title of Miss Sports Patra.
