René Préval, Haiti’s former president, died earlier today. He was criticised for a lack of leadership since the January 12 earthquake struck Haiti, leaving more than 230,000 people dead.
Préval was to address the International Donors Conference on Wednesday, where more than 100 countries would meet at the United Nations to develop a long-term plan for Haiti’s reconstruction.
In this video, which was posted on Al Jazeera’s YouTube channel on March 28, 2010, Preval told Al Jazeera’s Rob Reynolds that the recovery strategy for Haiti should have focused on the entire country.
