Haitian-American soccer stud Jozy Altidore was on the pitch for Toronto FC when he found out his girlfriend, Sloane Stephens, defeated Madison Keys to win her first major.
But he found out about Stephens’ victory through his mom, who was at the soccer match but monitoring the U.S. Open.
“My mom. My mom told me in the stands,” Altidore said. “It’s good for her. We’ve been friends for a long time and to see her progress as she has it’s a great sight to see.”
“It’s special, kudos to her for her dedication, her hard work, her resilience,” Altidore said. “To be out for such a long time and have the work ethic to come back at an even higher level than she was before, well done to her.
Sloane credited Altidore with helping her get through the long road to recovery.
