Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Shakes Northern Haiti

The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 5.9 earthquake has shaken northwestern Haiti.

The quake was centered about 12 miles (20 kilometers) west-northwest of Port-de-Paix off Haiti’s north coast. There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but here is what we know so far:

“A shock was felt shortly after 8:00 pm across the country. Our team from #Nord to #Sud stated that it’s starting to cause panic in some cities.”

“The 5.9 earthquake caused damage to Plaisance in the north of the country. The main facade of the Catholic Church collapsed. A house next to the church also collapsed, according to Lemoine Bonneau of Le Nouvelliste”
