Haitian-Japanese and world number one tennis player Naomi Osaka took out Hsieh Su-wei 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. This is Osaka’s first win after she signed with Nike.
The win marks Osaka’s first main-draw win in Stuttgart in three appearances. It was also Osaka’s third meeting in 2019 against Hsieh, having beaten her in three sets in Melbourne and lost to her in Miami. She’ll take on Donna Vekic on Friday.
The victory ensures Osaka will retain the world number one ranking for at least another week.
Osaka will face Donna Vekic next after the Croat overcame Russia’s Daria Kasatkina 6-1 7-5.
