The Haitian Music Industry lost another notable contributor over the weekend when Rap Kreyol producer, engineer, and sometimes director Bougin “BG Da Producer” Gedeon died tragically in a car crash on Monday (July 22nd), according to several reports.
BG Da Producer was instrumental in putting the Rap Kreyol on the hip-hop map, along with such fellow Haitian rappers as P-Jay, Jay Bugg and Mic’Son
. BG also produced the soundtrack for the Haitian movie “Love Triangle” – a romantic movie directed by Robenson “Roby” Lauvince. The soundtrack features some popular names in the Haitian Music Industry (HMI) such as Dug-G, FLAV, P-Jay, and Mic’Son.
Also in more recent years, BG Da Producer ran his own record label, One-Up Records, out of his home. Since the news broke following Saturday’s car crash, the late producer’s Facebook page has been filling up with well wishes from friends and fans.
Gabel’s singer FLAV paid tribute to BG in a Facebook post:
“8 years ago we recorded one of the biggest hit in Rap Kreyol “Fok Mwen Ale” with Pjay. You coached me from start to finish while we ate cookies & drinking redbulls (that was our thing every time we linked up to either record or just hanging out) these past 4 days I stayed away from social media to reflect and look back. One thing you have always done is celebrating others while they are alive and I don’t think we have done that enough for you because we always assume you would always be there. Mwen toujou di pa banm flè lè’m mouri paske Mwen pap ka pran sant yo anba tè pito nou banm flè pandan mwen vivan. Life is short and im always being reminded of that way too often. R.I.P MY FRIEND!”
“BG was always the very best at what he does. He was the heart ❤️ beat of the HAITIAN music industry. “My brother, it kills me and it upset me to know that you are gone, so young so talented. To your family I send my condolences and my prayers, you will never be forgotten, I know that the creator will receive your soul in heaven, I know he will guide your Family through, and I know he who created us, will always be with your kids. May your soul rest in peace my brother.”
In addition to his production talents, BG Da Producer was also a gifted music video director and CEO of Broward Graphics.
BG is survived by his three children (Ariana, Melody, Simba) and his girlfriend, model and makeup artist Nirva Pierre.
