Twitter and other social networks were all abuzz last night as Haitian stars hit the red carpet for the Second Annual PleziKanaval Awards in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. We took a look at the #PleziKanavalAwards conversation to see the highs, the lows, and the nominees who were deserving of trophies according to Twitter.

Drumroll, please! The PleziKanaval Awards brought out stars and industry folks alike in the Haitian capital Thursday night. Among those in attendance were Michael Guirand from Carimi, Shabba from Djakout #1, Mikaben, J. Perry, Izolan, Garcelle Beauvais, Laurent Lamothe, and President Michel Martelly.
The awards show was hosted by Richie from Klass and started at 8 p.m. local time at the Karibe Hotel.

Haitian music stars are currently recording a new song to pay tribute to the victims and survivors of the 2015 Kanaval in Haiti. At least 18 people died after a power line fell on to Barikad Crew’s carnival float in the Haitian capital, Port au Prince on February 17, 2015.
The song will feature Djakout #1, Shabba, Roro, Mikaben, Okyjems, Izolan, Vwadezil, K-Zino and more.

Jerry Boursiquot, nickname Bousiko, is responsible for some of the most iconic Haitian cartoons in the past couple of years, even if few fans recognize his name. That should be partially rectified by this year’s release of the most popular Kanaval 2015 cover arts – most of them designed by Bousiko.

Boursiquot is a self-taught illustrator who first began publishing his cartoons in the newspaper Le Martin.
