Haitian radio and TV personality Carel Pedre has been selected to represent Haiti in this year’s international visitor leadership program, which is currently under way in the United States of America from May 7 to May 28, 2016.
Just after the terrible earthquake that devastated the country on Jan. 12, 2010, while traditional media no longer worked, and that no one could reach the country, Carel Pedre became one of the only sources of information reliable on-site through the use of social networks.
In an exciting talk for the first TEDxPointeàPitre, the Haitian media personality and social media mogul Carel Pedre recounts his experience, and how the use of social networks can encourage the emergence of citizen actions relevant … and save lives.
Listen to Carel Pedre’s reaction after visiting Tête-à-l’eau, a populated place in Sud-Est Haiti where some of the returnees from Dominican Republic are now living.
More than 17,000 Haitians have voluntarily left the Dominican Republic since the end of a controversial registration process that left thousands of people facing deportation. A total of 711 returnees, including 20 pregnant women and 154 infants and toddlers (Ages 0-3), are now living in Tête-à-l’eau.
Haiti’s #1 morning radio show Chokarella has posted teaser screenshots for a its upcoming version 6.1 of the Chokarella iOS app. Looking at the screenshots, we can tell that the Chokarella team is extremely close to finally giving its audience what they want! Pretty dope, right? I can’t wait.
We will release a full review of the app once it’s released. In the meantime, take a look at a few images of what the app will look like. Hopefully this will hold you over!
